Privacy and cookies
Your test answers stay in your browser. We count visits without cookies. Analytics cookies are off unless you accept them, and you can change your mind at any time.

Who we are
Coach42 is run by Jay Sampat, Chief Mirror Holder. Write to jay@codiot.com about anything on this page.
[Legal name of the business, registered address and, if needed, an EU/UK representative: to be added.]
What stays on your device
Your answers, your progress through a test, your result and your settings are saved in your own browser (local storage). They are not sent to us, and we can’t see them.
A result or compare link contains your answers in its address. Share it only with people you choose. We strip those codes from every address before anything reaches our analytics, and Microsoft Clarity never runs on result or compare pages.
| Saved in your browser | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| c42.answers.v1 | Your answers to The 42 Test, so you can pick up where you left off |
| c42.result.v1, c42.compare.v1 | Your latest result, and a comparison you started |
| c42.beats.v1 | Which pauses in the test you’ve already seen |
| c42.theme | Light or dark theme, if you chose one |
| c42.consent.v1 | Your cookie choice and when you made it |
| c42.lastPage (this visit only) | Where the test’s Exit link takes you back to |
What we measure for everyone, without cookies
Before you choose, and if you choose “Essential only”, three tools run without setting cookies:
- Vercel Web Analytics counts page views, the page you came from, your approximate country, and your device type and browser. It doesn’t use cookies.
- Google Analytics runs in consent mode with cookies turned off. It receives signals that a page was viewed, without cookies or an ID that follows you from one visit to the next.
- Microsoft Clarity doesn’t run at all until you choose “Accept all”, so nothing from Microsoft loads before you decide. If you accept, it sees clicks, scrolling and mouse movement. Test answers and results are masked, and it never runs on result or compare pages.
With your OK (“Accept all”)
If you accept, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity may set the cookies below. This lets us see how people move across pages and visits, for example where they stop in a test. It never includes your answers.
| Cookie | Set by | What it’s for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics (first-party) | Tells visitors apart | 2 years |
| _ga_<id> | Google Analytics (first-party) | Keeps track of the current visit | 2 years |
| _clck | Microsoft Clarity (first-party) | Keeps the same Clarity ID across visits | Set by Microsoft |
| _clsk | Microsoft Clarity (first-party) | Joins page views into one session recording | Set by Microsoft |
| CLID, ANONCHK, MR, MUID, SM | Microsoft (third-party) | Microsoft’s own identifiers for Clarity and its sites, as described in Microsoft’s Clarity cookie list | Set by Microsoft |
What we never do
- We don’t run ads, and we tell Google and Microsoft that advertising storage is denied.
- We don’t sell or share your data for anyone’s marketing.
- We don’t record your answers in any analytics tool.
- We don’t ask for your name or email to take a test.
Changing your mind
Use “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page. If you switch to “Essential only”, we remove the Google Analytics and Clarity cookies from this site, and Clarity no longer loads from your next page on.
You can also clear this site’s data in your browser settings at any time. That removes your saved answers too.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you can ask to see, correct or delete personal data about you, or object to how it’s used. Because your answers never leave your browser, most requests will concern the analytics data held by our providers. Write to jay@codiot.com and we’ll help.
You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Who processes data for us
These providers may process data outside your country. [Transfer safeguards and data processing agreements: to be confirmed in legal review.]
- Vercel: hosting and Web Analytics.
- Google: Google Analytics.
- Microsoft: Clarity.
